About the Studio

In a world that is fast paced and rapidly advancing in technology, live music is a beautiful reminder of humanity and the joy of human expression. I view teaching viola as a vehicle for training students to become more creative, confident, and wholehearted artists and human beings. This perspective permeates how I interact with my students, treating them with respect and stirring them to think independently. The role of the private lesson is to provide instruction that empowers the student to take ownership of their practice and daily improvement, as well as musical inspiration to motivate them in their artistry.

Musculoskeletal knowledge has become integral with how I teach viola technique. My students go through a progressive technique list, and I use this progression to introduce different physical movements with corresponding anatomical information. The body is an equal partner to the viola, and healthy movement produces technical ease, fuller expression, greater accuracy, and more joyful music making.
